I would never say no to visit any local market wherever that might be. That’s a place  where  you get to see the “unseen” and the feel of the locals.
Chalai market is nothing new to me. Even then during every visit to Thiruvanathapuram if I get a chance I will rush to go. This is where you go with a couple of big heavy duty bags and all the shopping gets dumped in to it 🙂

The experience begins from the moment you hire an auto rickshaw (don’t go in your fancy cars) and head towards the market, narrow streets, bumpy roads,sudden breaks you name it, you got it.

This market has the most variety of bananas I have seen in one place and every banana is completely different in texture and flavour.

What’s Kerala without our good ol’ coconuts?

The produce are always so fresh and inconsistent in sizes (exactly the way I like it) mostly from the local farmers or neighboring states.

Kappa (tapioca) stall

This market has so much character even when the vendors try to get your attention by calling a specific person- “kanadi chetta” (hello brother  with the glasses) “chovuppu shirt chetta” (hello brother wearing a red shirt) I find it really interesting as you get a personalised invitation to their stalls 🙂
