Anjengo Fort

If you are in Thiruvanthapuram and craving a quiet get away this fort could be the answer. Basically now this fort is a well maintained park surrounded by tall walls which was built by British East India Company somewhere in 1695 also closer to Varkala beach.

You could walk along the top of the fort walls

You could take those steep steps and walk along the top of the fort walls at your own risk (as there are no barriers or safety fixtures) to enjoy the view. Trust me it is worth the risk.

5 coconut trees = Anjengo / Anjuthengu hence the name

5 coconut trees = Anjengo / Anju thengu hence the name. I know there is lot more than 5 coconut trees in this place so please don’t ask me.

Apparently they used to hang the culprits behind those walls - well how can you have such an ancient fort without some horror stories

Apparently, they used to tie the culprits on the pillars behind those walls and beat them death. Then flush the bodies through a secret tunnel – well how can you have such an ancient fort without some horror stories attached to it, who cares if its true or not 🙂

An ideal place for family picnic

An ideal place for family picnic. I guess.

For me this fort is simple, straight forward fun as there was not a load of history lesson to take with me after the visit. I think if you are a history freak, this is not for you 🙂
